50 years.

We are apart no longer. We reunited, embraced one another and what a meeting it was! Camaraderie, fun, food, drink, talk, talk, talk. Memories, what memories! A Mass celebrated by one of us, for all of us, for our absent friends and for our departed. We should not let these feelings go. We must stay connected. When able, we can meet periodically for food and drink, reach out to one another, share our triumphs and console one another in times of personal crisis. Separated only by geography, we are connected. We are the VI class of 1958.

Some good news concerning Art Sgroi:

A message to let you all know that Artie has had his open heart surgery, and is home and doing well. He can't go upstairs to get to his computer so I'm letting all of you know on his behalf. This is per Betty Jean Farnan Durante. She doesn't have a computer, so I have been selected to be the mail carrier.

Wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy HEALTHY New Year.

A CHRISTMAS POEM from our Poet Laureate, Anne (Harper) Sheehan

"Give me your tired, your poor, . . . '

Astir by day, ancestral town, along your cobbled lanes
    stream David's people from afar,
        census-called by Ceasar's reign.

Commotion, noise (and commerce) preoccupy the place,
'til, end of day, the privileged ones
        bolt tight their doors
            'gainst wind
                (and grace).

But then!
We hear the overstars,
    in angel anticipation~~
        spherically ringing, retelling the tale
(oh, listen, each town and nation)
                of timid, feeble knocking,
                    seeking entrance at each door~~
                        homeless little families,
                            needing kindness,
                                ~~nothing more.

Oh, God!
Across the courtyard,
    that tired, gentle man!
We can't believe!~~It's Joseph! With his maiden by the hand!
As Mary, there, on donkeyback, yields gracefully to pain,
anguished by inns' rejections, Joseph seeks our eyes,
                    ~~again.

Oh glance, so penetrating! You open every soul!
You make US now the innkeepers.
            (Not an easy role!)
                You're asking for our heartroom!
                  (Your call is everywhere.)
Must we unlock, from shore to shore? (It's true, we've space to spare.)

Good God! In that momentous glance, the earth forgets to spin!
    We hesitate~~
But then we nod: "Yes, yes," we smile. "Come in! Come in!
Come closer, Joseph! Enter, Mary! Please, lay your Baby here!

                        Oh, thank you
                        for reminding us
            to hold your poor~~and weary~~dear."

May you and your family experience openness, kindliness, love, and healing, in every way, at Christmas and throughout the New Year.

Class Luncheon

Our first class luncheon was November 18, 2008 at Crossgates Restaurant. It was a terrific success with great camraderie and good food. There were 34 people in attendance, 17 of whom were guys and 17 ladies. One classmate came from Lake George and one from Saratoga, the rest were local. It was great to see Lorna Brine McCartan, Ed Bartley, and John O'Neill, who were not able to attend the reunion, at the luncheon.

At the luncheon we discussed the suggestion of Frank Soffey, that the Class of 58 look into preserving the Little Grotto. We are going to look into the possibilities of what can be done. We will keep you informed of our findings.

Our next gathering is going to be Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Crossgates Restaurant. Hope to see you there

Directions: From the intersection of Fuller Road and Washington Avenue, take Washington Avenue Extension WEST about 2 miles to the second traffic light (Rapp Road). Turn right onto Rapp Road and then immediately sharp right onto the restaurant access road. The restaurant is located behind the Pine Bush Fire Station.

We console one another in times of distress.
The VI Class of 1958 prayerfully remembers:
